Calligrapher - Chanomi Touan

Born in Japan, Touan Chanomi at the age of 4 started on the path that was calligraphy or "sho-do". At 10 he had already decided that he was going to be a professional artist.

Being accepted at the top of his class of 270 students at Hanazono University, Department of Literature he spent his undergraduate years experimenting, creating and honing his skills in the arts. At 29 he suddenly felt the urge to experience a different culture and decided Australia was the place to be. Down-under he found inspiration living, working and presenting works with young Australian artists. Through this experience Touan was able to cultivate his own individual style.

After returning to Japan he started The Chanomi Shodo School while creating varying works from murals, billboards and logos for companies and government art works. This in turn has lead to appearances in sho-do performances, television commercials, radio programs and even being charged with scribing and designing movie titles.
